I'm a South African-American jazz pianist, composer and jazz educator spending some thirty years in exile in the U.S from 1961 until 1991, where my interaction with other South African and American musicians resulted in a wonderful performance and recording career. I feel very fortunate and blessed to have worked with great musicians such as Charles Lloyd, Sonny Stitt, Pharoah Saunders, Vincent Herring, T.K. Blue, O.C. Smith, Gary Bartz, James Moody, Ernestine Anderson, Miriam Makeba, Dewey Redman, Wallace Roney, Eddie Henderson, Leon Thomas, Victor Bailey, Omar Hakim, Poogie Bell, Bobby Broom and to have recorded albums and C.D.'s with John Handy, Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw, Joshua Redman, Mario Pavonne, Hadley Caliman, Elvin Jones, Rene McLean and Jackie McLean. I was on the jazz studies faculty at the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Muisc who's chair was the late great alto saxophone master Jackie McLean from 1985 until 199. I was a member of his band for eight years, recording the C.D.'s "Dynasty" "Rites of Passage" and "The J Mac Attack Live in Belgium" I'm currently the Director of the Miriam Makeba Center of Performing Arts at the University of Fort Hare situated in the beautiful east coast South African city of East London.
Thelonius Monk, Stravinsky, Bach, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Ravi Shankar, Charles Lloyd, Jackie McLean, Hadley Caliman, Elvin Jones, Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw, Baba Maal, Miriam Makeba, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
